What is an oral examination?

An oral examination is similar to a regular doctor’s checkup, only this one’s for your teeth and gums. The dentist will be checking the insides of your mouth for any tooth decay and other diseases like gingivitis. Your dentist will also be looking for any missing teeth, tooth erosion, or an impacted wisdom tooth. As soon as we make a proper diagnosis of your teeth and gums, we will be able to assess what treatment or intervention would be best suited for you.

Why do you need to have one?

A regular oral examination is important because it helps detect any dental problems early on. The earlier they are detected, the easier it will be to treat them. It is recommended to visit your dentist twice a year for your routine oral examination.

What can you expect?

During a routine oral examination, you can expect that a trained dental professional will thoroughly check the insides of your mouth for any dental problems and record them accordingly. At Ayr Family Dental we will then discuss with you if there is any treatment or intervention that’s necessary. Our dental hygienist will handle the cleaning and polishing your teeth before you leave our practice.

With proper care and handling, a routine oral examination should not be painful. With us as your family dentist, you can expect that we will be gentle and thorough while we take care of your teeth and gums from start to finish.
